Birds, conservation, the outdoors and art have always been great passions of mine and have fused together to generate my work. I aim to depict the unique characteristics of our precious native birds in a way that focuses on their importance and resonates with the viewer. I hope to show their beauty, endangered song and give a sense of the life they bring to the forest.
I work mainly with pencil, both colour and graphite. Though I have been experimenting with other media, I think that the humble pencil will always be my favourite. It is accessible and doesn’t require anything fancy. I think there is something special about creating art with a media so simple.
I grew up in Ruby Bay, Nelson and am entering my third year of architecture in Wellington. When I’m not busy with my studies I am busy creating art or in the outdoors adventuring looking for inspiration, getting fresh air and letting off some steam. I hope to complete my studies, travel and gain inspiration from around the world.
When I was 15, I won the Impressions Art Awards Student Award which entitled me to my own exhibition. Since then, I have been a part of exhibitions, expos and awards, as a finalist and a winner and represented in local art galleries. I am excited for the possibilities the future holds!
