Nelson Suter Art Society
to promote and encourage the cultivation and production of work in the visual arts
Virginia Watson
I paint what I find to be beautiful. Doing this keeps me looking for the beauty in the world. I want my work to be a counterweight to what ‘progress’ does to the planet.
I live in Nelson and observe the coastlines, islands, and inlets every day, often by bike. I’ve come to love the mud flats, tides, and the wildlife in all seasons.
The focus for my art currently is to celebrate the beauty in coastal inlets and the plucky characters that live there – the clever and beautiful long-legged wading birds.
I work in oils and use a palette knife as my default.
In 2018 I left an executive job, with the intention of painting, going on bike adventures, and working very part time in the family business. Biking and painting overlap a lot, and I’m never short of inspiration for new work.
Making art is exciting, and there are not enough hours in the day for all the ideas. I love to connect with other adventuresome, art lovers. Links below to get in touch.
