I am a Blenheim born Artist that studied Fine arts at Massey University in Wellington. While studying I developed a strong interest in Abstract Expressionism and the use of oil paint. After graduating I left New Zealand and travelled Europe, having exhibitions in London and Strasbourg, France. I have now returned home and I am painting now more than ever. My paintings explore expression through gesture and act as an internal language of emotion. I use the canvas as a stage for a performance or as a blank void to capture movements and actions. By creating violent brush strokes and different forms of energetic gestures with no premeditated subject matter, I am able to capture the experience of making a painting and I can portray honest human emotion. My practice does not depict objective reality but rather focuses on emotions and responses that objects and events provoke within a person. My work is a reflection of life and helps provide a better understanding of myself and the world around me.
