to promote and encourage the cultivation and production of work in the visual arts

Erika Aupperle

Working with clay has been a big part of my life for many a year. I love its versatility, the different phases it goes through while becoming something; the magic of glazes. In this there occurs excitement, frustration, curiosity, experimentation and surprise.

At heart, I am a utilitarian soul, making pots for everyday use. To drink or eat out of, to hold, to explore the surface on the outside, to cradle the shape in one’s hand, to hopefully add a little bit of pleasure, a smile, a feel-good sensation to life.

On this note I want to thank all the people who buy my pots and therefore enable me to carry on working with clay. Another version could be: By hook and by crook I ended up working with clay.
