Chloe Marer

I'm Chloe Marer, a Nelson local who’s enjoyment of existentialism and general weirdness results in strange art. I’ve been creating art and writing ever since I was 14, since then I’ve been on such a journey. From joining local groups to being selected for my first residency, as well as completing my Diploma of Writing for the Creative Industries through NMIT.

My art takes many forms, I practice a wide range of mediums from acrylics and oils, to lino prints and clay. As a lover of the abstract form and spirit, my art tends to embody both of these with poetry and prose, and a healthy dose of spiritual, occult and religious symbology.

I’ve always been fascinated by our emotional, psychological and spiritual worlds, and how they’re tethered to our physical reality. People are often impacted by their feelings and values, and while some would argue the objective separation between the rational/physical and irrational/other worlds; one may be surprised at how closely they are interlinked.

Shown through the lenses of personal experience, the written word and artistic expression; my art is an attempt for various themes to be understood on each level to help bring these inner/outer worlds together. Hopefully my experiences, love and lessons are illustrated in such a way that they are known anew through these artforms.

Life is made to be experienced and expressed, what is art if not expressing the experience.
