Bonnie Coad
I was born in 1974 in London while my Australian parents were enjoying a honey moon trip around the world. In 1978 my parents choose to settle in NZ instead of returning home to Australia.
I grew up on the West Coast of the South Island in a remote area that at the time still had no access to electricity. My childhood was idyllic and allowed me ample opportunities to explore my creativity.
My family relocated to the Tasman Region when I was a teenager and I spent my young adulthood in Motueka and Upper Moutere before moving to Marlborough around 2002.
In the late 1990’s I discovered paints and canvas and from there my art journey began.
I was awarded a scholarship to study for a Diploma with Honours in Art and Creativity and graduated in 2013. I have been a practicing artist ever since, working out of my home studio to stock Gallery’s around New Zealand.
I work chiefly in mixed media collage, incorporating sewing patterns, needlework templates and old household papers along with my hand made collage papers featuring coins, other found items and textile effects. I enjoy resurrecting the discarded debris of long forgotten domesticity and repeating themes within my work that can take people on a visual adventure through time. I also enjoy the multicultural element of incorporating language into my art works.
