Nelson Suter Art Society
to promote and encourage the cultivation and production of work in the visual arts
Angela lives in the heart of Nelson city. She has lived in the South Island
for 30 years and is originally from the Manawatū. Angela recently returned to art after a 35-year interlude. Her preferred mediums are oils and watercolour. Angela gathers inspiration to paint from the immense beauty of nature, of people, memories of her world travels and she is always guided by her intuition.
Angela is a medical herbalist, health and wellbeing consultant, life coach, intuitive healer, psychic medium, clairvoyant and a writer. She is an ex-police officer and a mother. Angela has worked over much of the South Island for the Department of Conservation in very remote locations with Fiordland been her favourite. She was the first in her family to go to University. After studying a B.Sc. at Lincoln in Ecology, Angela studied a 3-year Diploma in Herbal Medicine to be a medical herbalist. Angela’s grandmother was an artist, a psychic and an herbalist hence Angela is carrying on these traditions through the matriarchal lineage in her family.
Angela enjoys time in the outdoors gaining insights for art, whether long distance running, tramping or riding her motorbike in the summertime. Angela has studied Te Reo Māori up to NZQA level 5 at NMIT and she is currently writing a book on intuition.
He Whakataukī / Māori proverb “ānō me he whare pūngāwerewere” / “as though it were a spider’s web” (said of a fine piece of art such as weaving or a carving)
Artist Statement ~ My intention is to create works of art that inspire hope. My life has not been ordinary. I am a natural teacher and through art and other mediums I inspire people to follow their dreams, passions and to live their joy. I thoroughly enjoy painting and drawing. I have attended various art classes in Nelson over the past few years using oils, watercolour and acrylic mediums and various drawing workshops. We are fortunate in Nelson to have many fantastic art teachers and artists in the area. I am very happy to rediscover my passion for art and to be successfully selling my art and taking commissions.
